It’s a month of celebrations at the British Heart Foundation’s Furniture and Electrical Store in Parc Pensarn Retail Park in Carmarthen, as the Charity celebrates its 60th birthday this summer.
Store Manager Linda Ryan has run the shop since it opened around two and a half years ago and said it’s wonderful to acknowledge the valuable impact her staff and volunteers are making to help fund life saving research.
Linda said “It is absolutely wonderful to be back open again after such a challenging period of being closed during lockdown. I’m so proud of our volunteers and I’m incredibly pleased to be able to welcome them back. Most of our volunteers have been with us since we opened a few years ago and they are just delighted to be back, we all are.
“Lots of our volunteers have personal reasons for wanting to support BHF’s work. Many have a loved one with a heart condition, or a heart condition themselves. Others are just looking to give back to the community or learn new skills. We are all celebrating the BHF’s 60th birthday because we know that our work, as staff and volunteers is vital to fund research that saves lives.”
Constituency Member of the Senedd Samuel Kurtz joined Linda and her team of staff and volunteers to celebrate the BHF’s big birthday.
Samuel said “It was fantastic to be given the opportunity to meet the dedicated and hardworking volunteers behind Carmarthen’s British Heart Foundation store. Shops just like the BHF play such an important role in supporting ground-breaking medical research that helps save the lives of thousands of people every year.”
“For six decades, the British Heart Foundation has been tirelessly funding lifesaving research – their role cannot be understated.”
Samuel added, “I would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers that continue to support the BHF, in particular, Linda, Ruby, Fred and the whole Carmarthen store branch; and to the local residents who have continued to support the organisation. The charity truly is a light of hope and support for so many. If you have any unwanted furniture, clothing, books, or other items, then please consider donating them to your local British Heart Foundation.”
Linda said, “We have people from all walks of life who come to here to refurnish their homes. We often get unique antique pieces in, or items which are great for upcycling. It’s great to be able to give furniture a new lease of life whilst saving it from landfill. But we are always looking for more donated stock”.
The charity operates a free collection service for furniture items. To find out more visit https://www.bhf.org.uk/shop/donating-goods/book-furniture-collection-near-me
