Welsh Conservative Senedd Member, Samuel Kurtz MS, has welcomed news that Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire is set to benefit from a major UK Government scheme to boost high-speed mobile and broadband coverage.
The world-first £1billion Shared Rural Network (SRN) programme between the UK Conservative Government and the UK’s four main mobile network operators will see 4G coverage boosted to 95% across Wales, with Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire set to be one of the biggest benefactors.
The scheme also promises that 234,000 rural Welsh properties stuck with slow broadband speeds will be in scope for gigabit upgrades. This will prioritise areas which currently have slow connections, and which would otherwise have been left behind in broadband companies’ rollout plans.
Welcoming the announcement, Samuel Kurtz MS said:
“The UK Conservative Government’s Shared Rural Network programme is fantastic news for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire; it’s a major step forward in eradicating internet & mobile phone signal inequality once and for all.
“These plans will ensure that residents and businesses across Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire can look forward to sweeping coverage of fast and reliable 4G connection, delivering next-generation gigabyte broadband connection directly to our homes and work places”
“While there’s still more to do, this is positive step forward and I’m extremely encouraged that our communities are well on their way to achieving digital equality.”
