Thanks to the huge success and thousands of participants of the National Lottery in West Wales, since the £26,600 awarded in funding to several local organisations last year, a further £420,893 has been awarded to 10 organisations carrying out invaluable work across the region within their communities.
A wide variety of charities and organisations have been allocated National Lottery funding, including the Physical Wellbeing Project in Carmarthen who provide physical activity and peer support sessions for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
Speaking on this announcement, Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire politician Samuel Kurtz MS, said:
“It is incredible to see so many local organisations continue to benefit from National Lottery funding. Especially when noting the crucial work of the Physical Wellbeing project and their commitment to supporting those experiencing mental health difficulties.
“We can all recognise the importance of physical exercise and wellbeing and the role this plays in not only improving our mental health, but also in peer support and creating strong relationships, which in turn strengthens communities.
“This project has already, and under the provision of this support by the National Lottery Fund, can continue to support local communities and residents of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.”
Another organisation to be allocated funding was the Tenby Project (CIC). The project, based in Pembrokeshire, was awarded a £10,000 grant to enable the continuation of their vital work bringing together people with learning disabilities and the wider local community.
Continuing on this initiative, Mr Kurtz added:
“As we can all see from their accomplishments within the Tenby community, this initiative is of vital importance. The ability of the project to reduce isolation and increase confidence of those in need by the actions of selfless volunteers is astounding, and something the community does not take for granted.
“This well-deserved funding will continue to make such a difference within Tenby and beyond, helping to fund pay for staff, rent and general running costs of the organisation.
“I send my congratulations to the team at the Tenby Project for all their hard work and am so glad we get to see their continued progress with this fantastic initiative.
“I am so grateful, also, to the National Lottery Fund for providing this vital funding to local organisations who are really able to make a difference such as these”.
