This week, Samuel Kurtz MS and Paul Davies MS met with Airbus UK, Europe’s largest aeronautics and space company, to discuss the supply chain benefits that their world-leading international business brings to West Wales.
Airbus is a world leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions, operating in the commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space sectors. The organisation also has a specific interest in supporting and protecting the United Kingdom’s national infrastructure from cyber-warfare from hostile nations or rogue hackers.
The organisation’s supply chain reach even has basis in West Wales, with their latest H145 Helicopter model being deployed as part of Wales Air Ambulance’s fleet of life-saving aircraft and their ground-breaking anti-hacking technology being used to protect national infrastructure sites across West Wales.
Speaking about the company’s local benefits, Samuel Kurtz MS said:
“Airbus is a fantastic organisation, with far-reaching supply-chain benefits for a whole host of industry sectors across West-Wales.
“Whether it be supplying state-of-the-art H145 Helicopters for Wales’ Air Ambulance service, ensuring that lifesaving equipment can reach those who need it; or protecting our national infrastructure – such as the National Grid – from cyber-attacks using Airbus’ sophisticated anti-hacking technology.
“Their commitment to innovation, progress and security draws many benefits, which can be felt right here in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.”
Paul Davies, MS for Preseli Pembrokeshire and Shadow Economy Minister, added:
“It was a real pleasure to spend some time with the team from Airbus and to hear more about their fascinating innovation and technology.
“I was particularly impressed with their deforestation roadmap and their plans to reach net zero via sustainable aviation fuels – and their wider plans to use hydrogen in the future too.
“I also had a really interesting chat with their representatives about their apprenticeship programme and I saw for myself some of the projects and ideas that were being worked on. Airbus has a crucial role in supporting the Welsh economy, not just through employment but through providing skills too.
“Airbus are at the forefront of new and pioneering technology and I look forward to hearing more from them about some of the opportunities they are creating here in Wales.”
