Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Senedd candidate Samuel Kurtz has welcomed the news that the construction of the Llanddewi Velfry bypass is due to start this summer.
The bypass, first discussed over 10 years ago, will see a new road from Penblewin roundabout pass to the north of the village of Llanddewi Velfry before re-joining the A40. It will add overtaking lanes, improving journey times and road safety for both users and residents of the village.
Along with the bypass, the Penblewin to Redstone Cross improvements have also been scheduled to start this summer.
In meeting with Welsh Conservatives leader Andrew RT Davies in the village of Llanddewi Velfry, county councillor Samuel Kurtz said: "These improvement works to the A40 are long overdue, but will be welcomed by the local community and businesses in West Wales, including our ports.
"More can still be done to upgrade the A40 and I'm pleased to see we are committed to seeing those upgrades to improve journey times and improve road safety which will help west Wales recover after the pandemic.
"What is also pleasing is that we are committed to increasing the number of green charging points along the A40 as well, as part of our green recovery strategy."
