Local Senedd Member Samuel Kurtz MS has urged the public to get their annual winter flu vaccine, having received his jab during a Community Pharmacy drop-in event in the Senedd.
His plea to the public follows concerns from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) that a wave of flu could sweep the UK at the same time as a surge in COVID-19 cases this winter.
The authority said that lower levels of natural immunity to flu had increased the risk of public transmission.
Speaking about the importance of getting the winter flu jab, Samuel Kurtz MS said:
“For the sake of a quick drop-in to your local pharmacy, getting your winter flu vaccine today will help to protect you from the flu.
“And with COVID-19 still in circulation, you can help squash fears of a ‘twindemic’ this winter.
“If you are an adult in a risk group, are pregnant or are aged 50 or over, you can get your flu vaccine at your GP surgery or at some community pharmacies. Please visit https://bit.ly/3ynvQxH for more information.”
